BIOS - INDIVIDUAL BIOS FOR EXECUTIVE STAFF

Jay Haratsis, General Manager

Mr. H has been General Manager of the AAA Four Diamond Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, Michigan since 2007. A Boston native and graduate of Northeastern University and Cornell University, he has extensive experience in the hospitality industry. Beginning in Boston in Food and Beverage, he has accepted increased responsibility in eight locations throughout a career featuring both branded and independent properties.

He currently acts as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic; Board Member for the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau; Board Member of the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce; Cornell University School of Hotel Administration Alumni Association. He has also served as Past President and Past Pledge Chairman, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Troy. He was a Super Bowl XL Host Committee member and interviews for Cornell Hotel School’s undergraduate program.

Kevin Bayless – Director of Housekeeping

Kevin, a veteran Hospitality Director with over 33 years of hotel experience, joined the Royal Park Hotel on August 1 2005. Prior to joining the Royal Park Hotel, he had been the Housekeeping Director at the Embassy Suites Hotel located in Troy, Michigan. Kevin has held several management positions throughout his career mostly in the rooms division including Front Office Manager, Reservations Manager and Night Auditor. Kevin began his hospitality career in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida where he attended St. Petersburg Jr. College majoring in Hospitality Management.

Kevin is married and has three children (13, 11, and 9 years old) He enjoys classic automobiles and traveling to Northern Michigan cottage with his family.

Colin Brown – Executive Chef

Chef Colin has been with the hotel for six years and brings a wealth of culinary expertise to the guest based on his 28 years in the kitchen. Having traveled the world with noteworthy stints at Walt Disney World, Hotel D’Angleterre in Geneva, The Wentworth Golf and Country Club in Surrey, England, Adare Manor Hotel and Country Club in County Limerick, Scotland, In Geneva, he had the good fortune to work with two Michelin three star Chefs, Albert Roux and Freddie Giradet. Chef Colin served his apprenticeships at The Gleneagles Hotel and The Turnberry Hotel and Spa in Scotland. He was a member of the gold medal winning 1986 Scottish Culinary Olympic Team. When not working and mentoring his exceptional culinary team, Chef Colin stays active with his growing family of four and plays golf.

Annette Chapman – Director of Outlets

A graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts Degree in Commercial Recreation with Special Events Emphasis, Annette has been in hospitality for 20 years. Upon graduation, she began working at the Guest Quarters Hotel in Troy, MI as the Catering Coordinator. During her time at Guest Quarters, she worked in multiple outlets, including the restaurant and banquets. In addition to working at the hotel, Annette received her certificate for personal training and aerobic instruction. Annette also spent many weekends designing floral arrangements for weddings, showers, and corporate functions with her sister at the family business, Mandel Greenhouse & Florist. After leaving the hotel, she spent the next five years as the Catering Director at Maggiano’s Little Italy.

Christine Criel, Director of Human Resources

Christine began her career in hospitality at the age of 6 when her family purchased a Motel near Lake St. Clair. She assisted with the business until the age of 26. Thereafter she worked for Target Corporation, General Physics - a training company who supports the automotive industry, and then spent 5 years working for a Hilton Brand property. The last 5 years she has been working for Royal Park Hotel. Christine has enjoyed working in Human Resources for over 17 years.

Patrick DeLaere Jr. – Director of Events

Patrick has responsibility for both Corporate and Social Events. He also serves on the Executive Committee at the Hotel, which brings the leadership team together to build a stronger Hotel. Prior to his Event Director Role at the Royal Park, Patrick was the Director of Food Operations at Macy’s North (Michigan), Food and Beverage Director at Boulder Lakes Golf Club (Chesterfield, MI) and was Owner of Espresso Connections (Traverse City MI). He is a proud Alumnus of Grosse Pointe South High School and the University of Washington (Seattle), where he studied Business Administration and Business Management.

As a leader in the local Youth Sports community, Mr. DeLaere volunteers his time for many organizations; Step up to the Plate Foundation, Shelby Little League, District #6 Softball (Assistant Area Director) and the Impact Softball Club. He has been a member of the Belgium American Century Club for 10 years, where his family as volunteered for generations.

Janet Engelhardt – Director of Catering

Janet’s passion as a caterer was found early as she was oriented to off-premise catering by the second grade with her family business. Food, wine and details are in her blood and she couldn’t be happier! From trade shows in huge exhibit halls to Black-tie Galas to the most elegant weddings in all of Michigan, her experiences have brought joy and great memories. Janet says ”Nothing is better than a past bride coming back to plan her baby shower!” Relationships with clients are the most rewarding part of her career.

Janet is a Wisconsin native and it shows, during the NFL season as she relentlessly taunts staff with her Green Bay Packers cheers. Early in her career Janet moved to Atlanta, met her husband and, to our good fortune, came to Michigan. She has two wonderful boys (Jacob 13 and Joey 9) and two lovely girls (Krissy, rat terrier, 5 and Maizy, boxer, 2). They are joined by one Steele (gray cat) and two hamsters. Life is a Zoo at the Engelhardt’s for sure!

Janet also serves as the hotel’s resident cheerleader so if you hear a “WooHoo” anywhere in the building, expect to see Janet.

Susan Keels – Director of Sales and Marketing

As Director of Sales & Marketing at the prestigious, Four Diamond, Royal Park Hotel. Susan has been with the hotel for over eight years and was part of the pre-opening team as the Director of Catering and promoted in 2008 to Director of Sales & Marketing. She has over 25 years of luxury and Four Star Hotel, Restaurant and Country Club experience and has worked in the Detroit Metropolitan area throughout her entire career.

Susan participates in many local and national committees including the Rochester DDA, Detroit Regional Chamber and The Salvation Army Task Force. She was the former Vice President of the National Association of Catering Executives for her local chapter, has been recognized by the Detroit NACE chapter as “Caterer of the Year” and has been awarded several other sought after industry awards. She is highly involved with social media and enjoys captivating an audience, often speaking about hospitality and social media marketing to her peers and other large groups. She has been quoted as a lifestyle expert in many local and national industry publications. In her spare time Sue enjoys blogging about the exciting world of hospitality and is the co-founder of EventTrender.com, a highly popular national lifestyle blog where Susan features many hotel happenings, culinary recipes, inventive DIY projects and travel tips & trends.

Kelly Nering - Controller

Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Corporate Finance as a Cum Laude Graduate of Wayne State University. A native of Michigan, Kelly has over 20 years of progressive experience in hotel accounting. Prior to joining the Royal Park Hotel she worked for Marriott International for 15 years. Kelly is a member of the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professional Association (HFTP). When not spending time with her two dogs, she finds time to travel and enjoy her passion for scuba diving.

Scott Rhodes – Director of Engineering

Scott is involved with the Cub Scout troop Great Lakes Council # 47, Den #7, sits on the Dad’s Club committee at the elementary school his children attend where he is also the PTO vice president. Scott assists in coaching his son’s baseball team when time permits.

Scott has an associates’ certificate in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. Having worked twenty-two years for a heating and cooling company in Rochester prior to joining the hotel, Scott’s experience comes in handy. Scott enjoys building and remodeling houses, as there is great satisfaction to see the results of hard labor. He also likes to cook, play golf and basketball.

Scott has been at the hotel seven years managing a crew of six engineers who are skilled in several areas. We take great pride in the property.
 

Marsha Richards – Director of Guest Services

Marsha is a native Michigander, and a graduate of Central Michigan University. Marsha’s career path has always been customer service driven. For many years, she managed multi-location travel agencies, assisting travelers to explore the world!

Marsha began her hotel career when she joined the opening staff of Royal Park Hotel as a Guest Service Agent. She then enjoyed the position of Reservation Supervisor for a period of three years. Because of her exceptional performance and guest skills, Marsha is currently the Director of Guest Services. Marsha looks forward to greeting you upon your arrival.
